Aleksandra Komorowska is a Doctoral Candidate (DC) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Technology from Lodz University of Technology and a Master of Science degree in Finance from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research delves into blockchain, business models, platforms, and ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on the transformative potential of blockchain technology. Aleksandra employs qualitative research methods to explore blockchain business models, focusing on value mechanisms and the challenges they present. Her PhD project investigates how blockchain can empower digital business models, aiming to uncover innovative solutions for real-world applications. Aleksandra’s academic journey reflects a passion for exploring how emerging technologies can supercharge businesses and transform industries.

Motivation for the PhD

Aleksandra’s journey towards a PhD was inspired by her discovery of a deep passion for research during her master’s studies. With a strong interest in digital technologies and their potential to supercharge businesses, she was motivated to explore these dynamics further through a PhD. While Aleksandra’s long-term goals are still evolving, she is committed to fully immersing herself in the doctoral experience, embracing the journey and its opportunities for growth and discovery.

The DIEM consortium particularly appealed to Aleksandra due to its unique approach to blockchain research. The collaboration between industrial and academic experts within DIEM provides an ideal environment for conducting comprehensive investigations that contribute to both academic knowledge and practical business applications.

Doctoral Candidate Journey & Lessons Learned

Resilience and Adaptability: The first year of the PhD journey taught Aleksandra the value of resilience and adaptability in the face of research challenges, especially in the rapidly evolving field of blockchain technology. Personal Interests
Outside of her academic work, Aleksandra is passionate about acquiring knowledge in neuroscience and mental health, with a particular interest in neurodiversity and neurodegeneration prevention. She also enjoys cooking and hiking as ways to relax and stay active.

Aleksandra secretly harbors a passion for baking and often imagines opening her own bakery, a nod to the popular PhD-to-bakery joke.
